UT Martin up next for the Lady Tigers

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will look to win its third straight home contest on Saturday with a match-up against UT-Martin.

The Lady Tigers (5-9, 2-3 OVC) are coming off of an 82-72 win over Murray State on Thursday evening at home. TSU turned in its highest point total of the season and shot an impressive 43.8 percent from the field against the Racers. The Lady Tigers also went 9-of-19 from beyond the arc.

Kesi Hess led all scorers with a career-best 24 points on 6-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Oby Okafor turned in her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds while LaDona Pierce registered a career-high 17 points.

TSU led by as many as 15 points in the game before Murray State mounted a comeback and closed to within one. The Lady Tigers, however, were able to hold the Racers off and pick up the win.

Tennessee State is shooting 35.6 percent from the field while averaging 60.5 points per game. Oby Okafor is the only player averaging double-digits in scoring with 14.0 ppg. TSU is shooting 55 percent from the charity stripe.

UT Martin (2-11, 0-4 OVC) has struggled this season and has yet to pick up a conference win. The Skyhawks are only averaging 49.7 points a game while shooting 35 percent from the field. UTM is shooting 31.3 percent from three-point range.

Alecia Weatherly is the teams leading scorer with 12.1 points a game while Darnisha Lyles pulls down a team best 8.3 rebounds per contest.

Tennessee State and UT Martin will meet for the 50th time in the all-time series. TSU holds 27-22 advantage and has won two straight. Last season, the Lady Tigers swept the series picking up a 61-54 win at Martin before downing the Skyhawks 89-53 in the Gentry Center.
