Nashville --- Tennessee State University women’s basketball players Jasmine Smith and Meredith Stafford will travel to Istanbul, Turkey to compete with Christian sports ministry group, Sports Reach.

Sports Reach is a Christian sports ministry based in Kentucky that uses sports to share the gospel. This ministry was started in 1986 and has since ventured into 16 countries on five continents.

Jasmine Smith, a native of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Memphis, Tenn., native Meredith Stafford will have the tremendous opportunity to travel with Sports Reach to Istanbul, Turkey on May 10-21.

The rising juniors will participate in the University Sports Fest, which is an annual multi-national, multi-sport competition. They will also have a couple of games outside of the USF tournament.

During their travels, Smith and Stafford have a chance to experience elements of the Turkish culture. With Sports Reach, their presence will open many doors for other ministries as well as providing the opportunity to share what their faith means to them.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Meredith and Jasmine to be able to travel out of the country for the first time, and be able to share their faith as well as play the sport that they love,” commented coach Tracee Wells.

“We wish them the best and we’re looking forward to the confidence that they are going to bring back to the court to help our team be even more successful this upcoming season.”
