Nashville --- Seniors Kendra Appling and Tiffany Jackson were selected to the Ohio Valley Conference first and second teams, respectively, while transfer Jasmine Smith was named to the All-Newcomer team. Appling was also named the OVC Defensive Player of the Year.
Kendra Appling, a senior guard, earned the first-ever OVC Defensive Player of the Year award. She was second in the conference with 66 steals for a 2.3 per game average during the regular-season. The Jackson, Ga., native is the league's active career leader with 253 swipes in her four years at TSU. In addition, Appling was named to the OVC first team for the second straight year.
Senior forward Tiffany Jackson made her first appearance on an All-OVC team with her second team selection. The Houston, Texas native is among the league’s top ten scorers and top 15 rebounders. Jackson, TSU’s second leading scorer, is also ranked in the top ten in the OVC in steals and blocks.
Jasmine Smith’s impact on the Lady Tiger squad was acknowledged with her selection to the All-Newcomer team. Smith, a sophomore forward, is the team’s leading rebounder and third leading scorer. She has eight double-doubles on the season and has been named the OVC Newcomer of the Week six of the eleven weeks that she has been active.
