Nashville --- Senior women’s basketball player Kendra Appling was accepted to the WBCA’s 2009 Class of So You Want to Be a Coach Program.

“I think it will be a great experience and am really looking forward to participating and learning from the program,” said Appling. “Just to be able to go and be apart of the Final Four experience will be exciting.”

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s So You Want To Be A Coach 2009 is a collaborative effort between the WBCA and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) to provide female minority student-athletes with an experience that becomes the foundation of a successful coaching career.

The WBCA has assembled a group of experienced coaches and administrators who will serve as resources to share their knowledge, as well as provide students with networking opportunities.

The program will be held Friday, April 3rd - Sunday, April 5th, 2009 during the WBCA National Convention in St. Louis, Missouri.

Appling’s selection represents a significant honor as each year the selection process becomes more competitive while the number of talented young women who apply steadily increases.

“I’m very excited that Kendra will be participating in this program, which opens a lot of doors for young ladies interested in coaching and/or continuing their playing careers,” commented coach Wells. “I’m glad that Tennessee State will be represented in the 2009 class.”
