Lady Tigers Host Skyhawks

Nashville – The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team will gear up to host UT Martin on Saturday.


TSU (12-11, 8-4 OVC) is coming off of its first home loss of the season after falling to Murray State 97-93 on Wednesday night in the Gentry Center.


The Lady Tigers have three players averaging double digits in scoring led by Kendra Appling’s 17.8 points per game. Tiffany Jackson averages 15.9 ppg and 6.1 rpg while Jasmine Smith posts 11.0 points and 8.8 rebounds per contest.


Saturday will be Tennessee State and UT Martin’s 49th meeting. TSU holds a slight 26-22 series lead.


Tennessee State will look to sweep the season series with UT Martin as the Lady Tigers picked up a 61-54 victory at Skyhawk Arena earlier in the season. Kendra Appling led TSU with 20 points while Charisse Hicks notched 15. Yalonda Davis led the Skyhawks with 19 points while Alishia Glover added 16.


UT Martin (2-19, 0-10 OVC) has struggled this season and has yet to pick up a conference win. The Skyhawks are led in scoring and rebounding by Phyllisha Mitchell with 13.9 points and 13.4 rebounds per game.


Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Gentry Center. The game can be seen on and can be heard on the campus radio station WTST.
