Lady Tigers Close Out 2007 With Win Over Lipscomb

Nashville, Tenn. ---Four Lady Tigers scored in double-figures to help Tennessee State pick up its fourth win of the season with a 63-52 victory over Lipscomb Thursday night in the Gentry Center.


With the win Tennessee State improves to 4-7 while Lipscomb falls to 2-9 on the season.


Kendra Appling led TSU with 18 points and five steals while Oby Okafor picked up her fourth double-double of the season with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Charisse Hicks tallied 15 points while Tiffany Jackson recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.


It was an inauspicious start for the Lady Tigers as they began the game with two back-to-back turnovers and fell behind 0-4. After Tennessee State tied the game 4-4, both teams traded buckets with neither squad leading by more than four points in the half. The score was tied 26-26 at the half-time break.


TSU opened up the second half with seven unanswered points and built a 36-28 lead at the 16:30 mark. Lipscomb, however, responded with a 10-2 run to bring the game to 38-38. The score remained close over the next eight minutes.


Leading 52-50, Tennessee State outscored Lipscomb 11-2 in the last 3:00 of the game to seal the win.

The Lady Tigers will break for the holidays and will not return to action until Jan.3 when they host Morehead. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
