Morehead, Ky.--- Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures but it wasn’t enough as Tennessee State dropped a 64-67 decision to Morehead State on Thursday night in the Ellis T. Johnson Arena.
Morehead State’s Chynna Bozeman sank two free-throws with two seconds left on the clock to lift the Eagles to the 67-64 victory and clinch a tournament berth.
The Lady Tigers fall to 12-15 (9-10 OVC) while the Eagles move to 10-18 (8-11 OVC).
Oby Okafor and Tiffany Jackson led TSU with 21 points each while Kendra Appling added 16. Okafor also recorded 10 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the season.
Brittney Pittman nearly recorded a triple-double with 12 blocks, 10 boards and nine points. Tarah Combs (15), Chynna Bozeman (14) and Brandi Rayburn (13) paced the Morehead State offense.
Tennessee State shot 38 percent from the field (27-of-71), including 18.2 percent from beyond the arc (2-of-11). The Lady Tigers were 8-of-14 from the charity stripe (57.1%).
With the game tied 31-31, Tennessee State opened the second half with six unanswered points to go ahead 37-31. A three pointer by Brandi Rayburn would knot the game at 43 with 13:30 left to play. Both teams battled as the rest of the half featured 10 lead changes and nine ties. With the game tied 63-63, Chynna Bozeman knocked down two free-throws to capture a 65-63 lead. TSU came to within one on a free-throw by Kendra Appling but two more made free-throws by Bozeman with two seconds left sealed the win.
The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday at Eastern Kentucky in the regular season finale.
