Saturday, January 19, 2008

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--- Tennessee State dropped its fourth straight Saturday evening with a 56-69 loss to Eastern Illinois in the Gentry Center.

TSU falls to 7-11 (4-5 OVC) while EIU improves to 10-9 (9-2 OVC).

Both teams battled from the opening tip as the score went back and forth until a bucket by Kendra Appling sparked a 10-0 run that gave TSU a 20-13 lead. EIU, however, outscored TSU over the next three minutes to even the score at 21-21. Both teams then traded buckets until the Panthers used a 10-0 run to close out the half and claim a 35-25 lead going into halftime.

TSU scored the first points of the second half to cut the deficit to single digits but a jumper by Rachel Galligan re-upped the EIU lead to 37-27. TSU cut the EIU lead down two five (45-50) at the 9:21 mark but that would be as close as the Lady Tigers would get. Eastern Illinois knocked down 11 free throws down the stretch to put the game away.

Oby Okafor led TSU with 17 points while Kendra Appling added 12. Rachel Galligan recorded 30 points for EIU and Megan Edwards added 10.

The Lady Tigers will conclude their three-game home stand with a match-up against Eastern Kentucky next Thursday. Game
