Women?s Basketball Drops 71-83 Decision to Murray

Nashville, Tenn.--- The Tennessee State University women’s basketball team fell to visiting Murray State 71-83  Thursday night in the Gentry Center.


TSU falls to 11-15 (8-9 OVC) while Murray improves to 17-7 (11-5 OVC).


Murray State used a 59.3 percent shooting performance to claim as much as a 21 point lead in the first half while Tennessee State only managed to shoot 38.7 from the floor. TSU cut the deficit down to 13 points before entering the halftime break trailing 32-47.


Two quick buckets by TSU to open the second half brought the Lady Tigers to within ten points (47-37). But Murray responded by outscoring TSU 10-4 over the next five minutes to re-up its advantage to 57-41.  TSU would cut the deficit down to single digits at the 1:54 mark and with just under a minute to play but Murray State reclaimed a double-digit lead on a made free-throw by Alaina Lee. The Racers never trailed in route to the win.


Tiffany Jackson led TSU with 18 points while Oby Okafor added 13. Alaina Lee tallied a game-high 28 points while Ashley Hayes posted 20. Amber Guffey (15) also scored in double-figures for Murray.


The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday, February 23 when they host Jacksonville State in the final home game of the season. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
