Tracee Wells Named OVC Coach of the Year

Nashville---- Head women’s basketball coach Tracee Wells was honored as the 2008 Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year. Juniors Kendra Appling and Oby Okafor also received OVC honors.

 

Wells picks up her first OVC Coach of the Year award after guiding Tennessee State to its second OVC Tournament appearance in the last four years. The Lady Tigers posted 10 league victories for the first time since the 1994-95 season. Wells, who is one of four OVC skippers to be coaching her alma mater, is just the second TSU coach to receive Coach of the Year honors. Current Tennessee State Director of Athletics Teresa Phillips earned the award three times.

 

Junior guard Kendra Appling, an All-OVC first team selection finished the regular season ranked in the top ten in four categories. She led the league in steals (2.59 spg), while ranking 4th in scoring (17.6), eighth in three point percentage (.403), and seventh in made three pointers per game (1.79).

 

Junior forward Oby Okafor was selected to the All-OVC second team. She finished the regular season leading the OVC in offensive rebounds with 4.55 boards per outing.  She also ranked fifth in scoring (17.0 ppg), sixth in field goal percentage (.501) and eighth in overall rebounding (8.3 rpg).
