Lady Tiger Basketball Wins Final Exhibition 89-48

Nashville---The Tennessee State University women's basketball team defeated visiting LeMoyne-Owen 89-48 Friday night in the Gentry Center.

Oby Okafor led all scores and recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jheri Booker added 12 points while Kendra Appling, Tiffany Jackson, and Nikki Rumph each tallied 10 points for the Lady Tigers. LaDona Pierce handed out a game-high 10 assists.

Tennessee State out rebounded LeMoyne-Owen 43-32 and shot 55.4 percent for the game.

TSU scored the first points of the game on a lay-up from Oby Okafor and jumped out to a 12-6 lead five minutes into the contest. The Lady Tigers extended the lead to 14 (20-6) following a bucket from Nikki Rumph but the Lady Magicians would not go away. LeMoyne-Owen cut the deficit down to eight points (22-14) behind three scoreless minutes from TSU.

An Okafor jumper ended the Lady Tiger dry spell and TSU never looked back. Continuing to build on the lead, TSU went into half-time with a 46-26 lead. Tennessee State would hold on to the lead for the rest of the game.

The Lady Tigers will travel to Ohio State for the first official game of the season on Tuesday, Nov.14. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
