Lady Tigers Beat Tech on the Road

Cookeville, Tenn.--- Oby Okafor recorded her 20th career double-double in Tennessee State’s 69-56 win at Tennessee Tech Saturday morning in the Eblen Center.

Tennessee State (9-11, 6-5 OVC) out rebounded Tennessee Tech (3-18, 2-9 OVC) 43-32 and shot a season-best 85 percent from the free-throw line.

TSU went ahead 14-7 at the 9:11 mark but TTU used a 10-4 run to move to within one (17-18). The Lady Tigers, however, responded with eight unanswered points to stretch the lead to 26-17 with 4:48 left to play in the half.

Tennessee State led 30-23 at halftime.

Tech opened up the second half with seven unanswered points to tie the game 30-30. The Golden Eagles took a 32-21 lead on a free-throw from Tyler but a lay-up by Charisse Hicks on the ensuing possession put TSU back on top (33-32).

The Lady Tigers held on to the lead for the rest of the game, knocking down nine free-throws in the final minute to seal the game.

Oby Okafor led all scores with 28 points in addition to 10 rebounds. Tiffany Jackson also posted double-digits with 11 points.

Kristina Tyler led Tech with 15 points while Marissa Hensley added 13.

The Lady Tigers return to action Thursday, Jan. 31 when they host Samford University. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
