Charleston, Ill.--- Eastern Illinois outscored Tennessee State 40-27 in the second half, as the Lady Tigers dropped a 65-51 decision to the Panthers Tuesday night in the opening round of the OVC Tournament.
The Lady Tigers finish the season with an overall record of 13-17.
In a low scoring first half, Eastern Illinois grabbed the first lead of the game on a lay-up by Rachel Galligan. The Panthers would hold the lead for most of the half, claiming as much as a nine point lead (19-10). A jumper by Kendra Appling at the 5:56 mark sparked a 14-4 run that put TSU ahead 24-23 before EIU scored the last bucket of the half to go into the break with a slight 25-24 advantage.
Trailing 34-37 at the 13:12 mark of the second half, a three-pointer by Kendra Appling evened the game at 37. With the game tied 39-39, Eastern Illinois outscored Tennessee State 16-6 over a seven minute stretch to go ahead 55-45. A lay-up by Jackson would cut the deficit down to single digits but a three-point bucket by Megan Edwards at the 3:57 mark put the Panthers back on top 59-47.
EIU held on to a double-digit lead for the rest of the game.
Kendra Appling led TSU with 19 points while Oby Okafor tallied 16. Tiffany Jackson chipped in 10. Rachel Galligan paced the EIU offense with a game-high 25 points in addition to 11 rebounds.
