NASHVILLE---The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will open the 2007-08 season with two exhibition games against Fisk and Lemoyne-Owen before traveling to Columbus, Ohio, (Nov.14) to take on the Buckeyes of Ohio State in the first official game of the season. The Lady Tigers will hit the Gentry Center court for the first regular season home games with return contests against Nicholls State and Saint Louis University on November 17th and 20th. Over the Thanksgiving break TSU will participate in the University of Memphis' Tournament with host University of Memphis, Louisiana Tech, and Northwestern State. Other non-conference opponents on the schedule include North Carolina Central and cross town rivals Belmont and Lipscomb. This season the Lady Tigers have all five starters returning including last season's second best offensive rebounder in the OVC, Obiageli Okafor. Okafor led TSU in scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (7.0 rpg) and pulled down nine double-doubles last season. In addition to the nine players returning from last year's squad, four new players will join the program. The Lady Tigers will welcome incoming freshmen Meredith Stafford (5-6, G, Memphis, TN), Jasmine Ellis (6-0, F, Memphis, TN), Tequila Martin (5-4 G, Dothan, AL) and junior college transfer Charisse Hicks (5-8, G, Indianapolis, IN).
