NASHVILLE---The Tennessee State University women's basketball team dropped a 57-85 decision to Butler University Wednesday night in the Gentry Center. With the loss the Lady Tigers fall to 2-5 while Butler improves to 3-8 overall. The game started with promise as the two teams battled back and forth. The Bulldogs, however, put together a run that saw them take a 42-26 lead into half-time. Butler opened the second half of the contest on a 12-0 run that stretched its lead to 54-26. The Bulldogs would not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game. Tennessee State committed 24 turnovers and only forced Butler to 15. Tennessee State out-rebounded the Bulldogs but only managed to shoot 35.8 percent from the floor. Kendra Appling led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 16 points while Oby Okafor added 12 points for TSU. Jamika Banks grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Lade Akande paced the Bulldogs with 19 points while Jackie Closser and Tara Miller added 17 and 12 points respectively. The Lady Tigers return to action on Friday when they face Savannah State in a rematch of last month's November 22nd meeting. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
