NASHVILLE---Tennessee State University women's basketball coach Tracee Jones announced the addition of four players for the upcoming 2007-08 season. Joining the Lady Tiger program are incoming freshmen Tequila Martin, Meredith Stafford, Jasmine Ellis and junior college transfer Charisse Hicks. Charisse Hicks, a 5-8 guard, played two years under coach Zach Loll at Kaskaskia Junior College. She averaged 12 points, two boards, two assists and two steals as a freshman. Hicks improved on her freshman year stats by averaging 17 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals per game as a sophomore. A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Hicks was named to the Division I All-Region team in 2007. She was also a two-time selection to the Region 24 Team. Tequila Martin, a 5-4 point guard, is ranked 15th among Alabama leaders, according to The Dothan, Alabama native scored 424 total points as a senior and averaged 18.4 points per game. Martin, a member of the National Honor Society, was selected to the AHSAA 6A All-Regional Tournament Team. She helped her team to a 6A Tournament final four appearance and was named the 2007 Regional Tournament MVP. With the addition of Jasmine Ellis and Meredith Stafford, coach Jones signs two more Tennessee recruits as both players hail from Memphis. Jasmine Ellis competed four years at Central High School under head coach Nikki Brae. A 6-0 forward, Ellis was named the 2005-06 Defensive Player of the Year. She was also a Regional and District All-Tournament selection. Ellis was a multiple varsity letter winner in basketball, soccer, cross country and track. A member of the National Honor Society, Ellis made the honor roll four consecutive years. Meredith Stafford, a member of the National Honor Society, also attended Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee and was a four-time varsity letter winner. A 5-6 guard, Stafford was voted the Most Athletic Female in her senior class. A team captain as a junior and a senior, Stafford was selected to the All-Tournament team at the Holiday Inn Invitational Tournament and the Collierville Dragon Fire Invitational as a senior.
