NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State women's basketball team won its second exhibition game in as many outings, defeating Memphis Express 66-54 Tuesday evening in the Gentry Center. The Lady Tigers overcame 29 turnovers to take the 12 point victory. The Lady Tigers built an early lead, but Memphis Express came back to cut the halftime deficit to two points. The Lady Tigers gained control in the second half. TSU built its largest lead at 51-36 on a layup by Kendra Appling at the 11:06 mark. Freshman Obiageli Okafor led the Lady Tigers with a double-double, scoring a game-high 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Tiffany Jackson scored 15 for TSU. TSU shot 22-55 from the field (40 percent), including 14-29 in the second half. The Lady Tigers held a 49-42 rebounding edge. Georgette Jones, a former LeMoyne-Owen player, scored 11 points off the bench to lead the Express. TSU opens the regular season Friday in the Marshall University tournament, playing against the host school in the opening round.
