LADY TIGERS CLOSE, BUT EKU TAKES WIN
NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State women's basketball team battled defending Ohio Valley Conference tournament champion Eastern Kentucky, but the visiting Lady Colonels were able to escape the Gentry Center with a 68-63 victory Thursday night. The game featured 14 lead changes and 14 ties as TSU was in position to post its first victory of the season. The Lady Tigers were tied at 57-57 following a pair of free throws by Obiageli Okafor with 4:06 remaining. EKU took the lead for good on an Andre Jenkins layup with 3:50 left. TSU trailed by two points with 12 seconds left, but EKU was able to seal the game as Laura Shelton made 3-of-4 free throws to account for the five-point victory. Leslie Dean led the Lady Tigers (0-17, 0-9 OVC) with 24 points. Tiffany Jackson scored 14 and Okafor came off the bench to tally 14. Shelton led the Lady Colonels (5-13, 5-6 OVC) with 12 points, while Jenkins scored 12, and Ashley Cazee added 12.
