BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- Tennessee State was the latest team to fall victim to the early surprise of the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference women's basketball race as host Samford handed the Lady Tigers a 67-42 loss Thursday night. The Lady Tigers could not get untracked early against the Bulldogs as Samford opened a 43-17 halftime lead. The Lady Tigers shot just 25 percent (5-of-20) in the first half while Samford was shooting 59 percent (16-of-29). TSU finished the game at 31 percent (12-of-39) and committed 27 turnovers. TSU outscored the Bulldogs 25-24 in the final half. Freshman Tiffany Jackson led the Lady Tigers with 14 points. Alex Munday was the big star for Samford scoring 34 points on 13-of-15 shooting from the field and was the lone player in double figures for her team. TSU continues its Alabama road swing Saturday at Jacksonville State.
