LADY TIGERS SEE HOST WINTHROP USE STRONG SECOND HALF TO POST WIN

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tennessee State held the lead for the entire first half, but host Winthrop used a strong second half to defeat the Lady Tigers 60-55 in the final non-conference game of the season on Monday night. The Lady Tigers built a 20-8 lead in the opening half and carried a 22-17 lead into halftime. The Lady Tigers were only able to convert one field goal the final nine minutes of the opening half. Winthrop came back to shoot 61 percent from the floor in the final half and finish at 43 percent for the game. TSU shot 35.5 percent (22-62) for the game. The Lady Tigers made seven of 10 free throws and saw Winthrop go to the charity stripe 24 times where the Lady Eagles made just nine. The Lady Tigers saw their bench score 33 of the team's 55 points. Leslie Dean tallied 13 points and just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Jamika Banks scored 10. Ashley Sibby matched a season-high 11 points on 5-of-7 field goal shooting in making her second start of the season. Angela Vance had nine points and eight rebounds. Lisa Koop led the Lady Eagles (6-7) with 18 points. Ashley Fann had 17 rebounds. TSU returns to OVC play Thursday at Samford.
