LADY TIGERS DROP CONSOLATION CONTESTAS ALABAMA STATE MAKES LATE RUN
BIRMINGHAM --- Tennessee State scored a lone field goal in the final four minutes of play as Alabama State pulled away to post a 70-60 win over the Lady Tigers in the consolation game of the UAB Blazer Invitational Thursday night. Trailing 59-58 with four minutes remaining in the back-and-forth contest, Alabama State's 6-5 center Crystal Kitt scored 10 points, including eight consecutive points to key the win. Kitt had been plagued with foul trouble, but re-entered the game down the stretch. Kitt finished with a game-high 28 points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Tigers trailed 32-31 at halftime and stayed close until ASU's late run. LaKisha Clay led TSU with 14 points, five assists, and recorded four steals, giving her 10 for the two-game tournament. Freshman LaTina Patterson made her first career start for TSU and tossed in 12 points. Leslie Dean and Kendra Bailey scored nine points each and shared team rebounding honors with seven boards each. TSU (3-7) finished the game shooting 44 percent from the field. TSU made 12-of-24 free throws, including just 4-of-13 in the opening half. ASU (3-6) finished the game shooting 39 percent and held a 47-36 rebounding edge. The Lady Tigers will host UNC Asheville Monday at 7 p.m. in the Gentry Center.
