Rivera Ortiz and Williams Named OVC Players of the Week

NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Sophomore Gina Rivera Ortiz has been named Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week and junior Aniya Williams has been named Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.

The libero from Lajas, Puerto Rico racked up 88 digs over Tennessee State's four matches last week. She hit the 20-plus dig three times. She was named to the New Orleans Invitational All-Tournament team after notching 68 digs in the tourney. She had 21 digs versus Evansville, 24 against New Orleans, 15 versus Southern and 28 against Mercer.

The middle blocker from Cedar Hill, Texas recorded 32 kills, a .344 hitting percentage and 14 blocks in Tennessee State's four matches last week. In the match against Mercer, she had 13 kills. She recorded five blocks in the matches against New Orleans and Southern.

The Tigers will be back in action Tuesday at North Alabama for a 7 p.m. match at Flowers Hall.
