MATCH INFORMATION: The Tennessee State volleyball team will compete against Southeast Missouri and UT Martin in Kean Hall homecoming weekend. The match against SEMO will begin at 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and UT Martin's match will begin Saturday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: Big Blue hosted SEMO and UT Martin during its homecoming week when the team honored the 2005 and 2007 championship teams with banner hangings in Kean Hall. The Redhawks swept the Tigers on Friday night when Rachel Henderson led the team in kills with 14 and surpassed 200 kills for the season. Katora Roberts put down 8 for the Tigers, and Maya Evans 7. The team came back on Saturday and fought through four sets. Cherlie Adorno DeJesus recorded 30 digs, leading the defense which outperformed the Skyhawks 88-74. Big contributors were Curstyn Wilson 17, Samantha Beltran 12, Sydney Swann 10 and Kylie Hayes 8.
SERIES INFORMATION: In the all-time series against APSU, the Tigers are 10-45. Against Murray State, TSU is 10-46. In the last five seasons, Big Blue went 2-4 against the Governors and Racers.
ABOUT APSU: In its homecoming week, the Governors (19-4, 7-1 OVC) beat out Jacksonville State and Murray State last weekend, sweeping both teams 3-0. Ashley Slay has racked up 321 kills, 215 digs and 72 blocks this season, making her the biggest weapon that the Governors possess.
ABOUT MURRAY STATE: The Racers (12-7, 4-3 OVC) finished the fourth week of conference play 1-1 after losing to Jacksonville State on Friday, then traveled to Tennessee Tech to sweep the Golden Eagles. Rachel Giustino leads the Racer offense and the Ohio Valley Conference in kills. Three Racers top the OVC in service aces, and the team is first in the league.
UP NEXT: The Tigers head to MTSU for a match against the Blue Raiders Oct. 25 at 6 p.m., then travel to Morehead Oct. 27 and finish out the week against EKU Oct. 28.
