MATCH INFORMATION: The Tigers volleyball team will end its non-conference play in Springfield, Missouri, as they take on Washington State, Illinois and Missouri State at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational Sept. 15-16.

TSU UPDATE: Tennessee State travelled to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, last weekend where the team fell in its matches against Alabama (3-0), Furman (3-2) and Hofstra (3-0). Senior setter Sam Beltran recorded two double-doubles throughout the weekend doling out 86 assists, 30 digs, eight kills and two blocks. Junior college transfer Rachel Henderson rounded out the weekend posting the team high in blocks (8) and 18 kills in the five-set match against the Furman Paladines. In the final pre-season tournament, the Tigers are looking to improve its 4-6 record.

SERIES INFORMATION: This weekend will account for the first time the Big Blue will compete against Washington State, Illinois or Missouri State.

ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE: The Cougars are headed to Missouri with an 8-1 record. Middle blocker Jocelyn Urias is ranked third nationally in blocks per set (1.77). The team is first in team blocks per set (3.47) and sixth in opponent hitting percentage, holding it to a mere .121.

ABOUT ILLINOIS: The Illini rank third in the NCAA in blocks per set where opposite Megan Cooney has managed to average 1.16 blocks per set. Outside hitter Beth Prince has averaged 4 kills per set in the Illini’s last four matches, making her one of Illinois’ biggest offensive threats. The other is Ali Bastianelli who leads the nation in blocks per set (2.00) and is second in hitting percentage (0.531). The team defeated Western Kentucky 3-0 earlier this season.

ABOUT MISSOURI STATE: The Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational will serve as Missouri State’s home opener. At the Hammons Student Center, the bears are 187-45 for an .806 winning percentage. Last season, Missouri State went 11-2 at home.

UP NEXT: The Tigers enter conference play at Kean Hall Sept. 22 where they will compete against EKU.
