Volleyball Camp Report: Day 3

NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State volleyball returned to the court for the third practice of fall camp.

After working on defensive strategies in day two, the first practice of day three was spent working on transitioning from defense to offense. The quicker the hitters and middle blockers can transition, the better chance they have at making an attack the opponents cannot return.

The Tigers will go through three more practices before having their Blue & White Scrimmage on Saturday evening.

Junior Middle Blocker, Rachel Henderson
-On transitioning from junior college:
“It’s been fairly tough, but the difference is I’m busier. I have to focus on volleyball more than I did in JUCO.”

-On day 3:
“Today started off a little slow, but once we got the jitters out and the soreness went down, we got to it and it became very intense.”

-On what she wants to work on:
“I personally want to work on my versatility on the outside. I want to swing harder and be faster on the outside on the right and the middle.”

-On what the team needs to work on:
“We need to work on overcoming obstacles more as a team, and getting past the hard part of practice rather than dwelling on it.”

Sophomore Outside Hitter, Julia Pierson
-On day 3:
“Day 3 started out really slow, but throughout practice we picked it up.”

-On the newcomers:
“They’re really trying to work their butts off to earn a spot on the court, as are the returners.”

-On what the team needs to work on:
“We really to need to work on offense and communicating. Once we have that we’ll be fine.”
