NASHVILLE, Tenn. --- Tennessee State volleyball team beat Middle Tennessee State University by a score of 3-1.
With no one stand out player on the night, the Tigers put together a total team effort to win the match. Offensively Arijana Anderson led the team with 14 kills. She was followed by Chloe Watson with nine. On the defensive side Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus would pace the team with 14 digs. Taylor Patterson would contribute 10 digs of her own on the night.
The opening set would start off with TSU leading by 3-2. A service ace by Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus gave the Tigers its first lead of the set. The Tigers would have a lead as large as eight before the Blue Raiders made a run to even the score at 22 all. TSU would win the set by a score of 25-23. Anderson led the team offensively with four kills.
The second stanza would start off with a see-saw score with the largest lead by either team being three. TSU would then build a four point lead before MTSU took a timeout. After the timeout the Blue Raiders would pull within two before a Julia Pierson kill gave the Tigers a 19-16 lead. TSU would get back to back kills from Anderson before an attack error gave the Tigers the set point and the win in match two. The Tigers won 25-21!
Tennessee State would have a commanding lead to begin the third frame. Leading by a score of 12-6, a few mishaps by TSU would bring the Blue Raider deficit to 3. MTSU would tie the score at 19 apiece before a kill by Anderson would put the Tigers up by one. Middle Tennessee would register back to back kills giving them a 21-20 lead. A 5-1 run for the Blue Raiders would give them the 25-21 win in set three.
TSU would begin the fourth set up 8-4. A service ace by Patterson followed by a kill from Anderson would push the Tiger lead to 14-9. The momentum would shift back in TSU’s favor. Patterson would score another service ace before a hitting error by the Blue Raiders gave Tennessee State a 16-9 lead. An attack error by MTSU would seal the deal giving the Tigers a 25-15 lead.
