BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --- For the second consecutive week junior libero Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus was recognized for her performances last week against Tennessee Tech, Jacksonville State and Rice University by garnering the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week. She would also receive the OVC Newcomer of the Week.
Small in stature at only 5’3 Adorno-DeJesus plays bigger than her size. She would lead TSU in digs in all three matches for the Tigers. Against Tennessee Tech she would register a career high in digs with 32 to lead Tennessee State to a 3-2 win. The libero would follow that up by improving her career high to 34 digs while she also added four assits to help her team come back from down two sets to win in five frames against Jacksonville State.
Adorno-DeJesus led her team in digs in the weekend finale with 25 digs against Rice University. In conference games only she leads the OVC with an average of 6.62 digs a set. She is the only TSU player to win a weekly conference award this season. This is her first time winning newcomer of the week.
The Tigers will resume play on Wednesday October 5 in Kean Hall against MTSU at 6 p.m.
