Tigers Lose Second Conference Match to SIUE

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. --- Tennessee State volleyball lost a 3-0 match to SIUE in its second conference road game of the season.

Julia Pierson led the team offensively with nine kills while also adding two in a half blocks. Katora Roberts had a strong second and third set finishing second on the team with eight kills. Senior Puamana Danielson added a double-double for the Tigers with 31 assists and 10 digs. Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus led the team with 22 digs and Taylor Patterson pitched in 11 of her own.

Set one started off with a back and forth match between both teams. The Tigers started off slow before finding their rhythm midway through the first frame. A hitting percentage of .361 for SIUE in the first frame would lead them to the 25-20 win. Pierson led TSU with four kills to begin the match against SIUE.

The Tigers started set two off down three before rallying to pull the score within two. An error by TSU would give SIUE the win in the second frame 25-22. Katora Roberts led TSU in the second frame with five kills. The Cougars capitalized on six errors by TSU to help propel them to the win in set two.

TSU came out strong after half time. For most of the third frame the team had a lead on SIUE. Pierson would contribute three kills in the third frame to try and bolster Tennessee State to a win. A momentum shift in SIUE favor would carry them to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

UP NEXT: The Tigers will play their first conference home game of the season against Tennessee Tech on Wednesday September 28 in Kean Hall. This will be the first of a three game home stand for TSU.
