ADORNO-DeJESUS - 10
CLARK - 3
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- In the first match of the Butler Classic the Tigers (4-4) fell 3-0 to the Bulldogs from Butler (6-4).
The Tigers could not seem to find their rhythm as they fell for the fourth consecutive time this season. TSU was led by Senior Chloe Watson offensively as she had 12 kills in the match while Katora Roberts had six. Defensively, Taylor Patterson and Cherlie Adorno-DeJesus posted 10 digs apiece.
Set one started out slow for both teams as the Tigers trailed early 7-5. Butler would then go on a five point run to create separation from TSU. The Tigers would use their first time out down 12-5. Offensively the Tigers would struggle to get anything going in the first set. Eventually, Butler would go on to win set one by 12 points.
TSU would start off set two strong offensively. The Tigers would start off with a kill from Roberts, Watson, Patterson and Arijana Anderson before a service ace from Patterson pushed their lead up 5-1. The second set would be a back and forth match between the teams as there were two ties and two lead changes. A few costly errors by TSU would give Butler the cushion it needed to take set two 25-21.
The final set of the match would be similar to the first set as Butler would slow down the Tigers offensively. Tennessee State would have just 11 kills and five errors in set three. The Bulldogs would go on a six point run and the Tigers could not claw their way back into the set. The final set would go in Butler’s favor 25-14.
The Tigers will look to rebound and get its first win since week one against Wright State Saturday at 2 p.m.
