NASHVILLE - The Tennessee State volleyball team took the court for the first time in 2016. The Tigers started camp in hopes to build on a really successful season last year.

Last season the Tigers finished with an overall record of 16-14 and a conference record of 10-6. The Tigers are looking to make a run at the conference championship this season. They return seven players and have seven newcomers that make up this year's team.

The Tigers' first practice was focused on defense with coaches working on position specifics. Early in the afternoon the team had individual drills working on the offensive side of the ball. The day wrapped up in the evening with a two-hour full team practice. On the first day the coaches were able to see how well the players adjusted to each other by playing with different lineups.

The Big Blue will return to practice on Thursday morning with group defensive workouts for the second consecutive day. Individual position drills will follow the morning workout and the night will conclude with full team drills.

Notes: First practice of the 2016 season under Head Coach Kathy Bullock… Bullock is starting her 13th season at the helm… First game is Friday, Aug. 26 versus Texas Southern in the ISTAP Collegiate Cup 1…
