NASHVILLE, Tenn- The Tennessee State volleyball team (13-13, 8-6 OVC) will close out its regular season this week as they face Belmont University (14-12, 11-3 OVC) at home on Wednesday before traveling to Eastern Illinois to play on Saturday.
Last Time Out
The Tigers split on the weekend, earning a win against Tennessee Tech on Friday before falling to Jacksonville State in five sets on Saturday.
Tied for fourth in conference with Eastern Kentucky, the Tigers solidified their spot in the conference tournament after their win over Tech on Friday. Their seed for the tournament has yet to be determined.
The Bruins are 14-12 overall and are sitting in the second place spot in the OVC with an 11-3 conference record. Tennessee State gave the Bruins one of their three conference losses earlier this season when they played Belmont on the road.
Last weekend, Belmont broke its four-game winning streak with a loss to Tennessee Tech on Saturday.
The Bruins are hitting .197 on the season while opponents are hitting .195. Arianna Person leads Belmont offensively and defensively with 392 kills(3.92 k/s) and 310 digs (3.10 d/s).
The match is set for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday and will play host to Senior Night where Tennessee State will honor its two seniors, Madison Halterman and Haley Hampton, with a short ceremony highlighting and honoring their athletic careers prior to the start of the match.
Scouting Eastern Illinois
The Panthers are 15-13 on the season and hold the third place spot in conference with a 10-4 record in conference play.
Eastern Illinois went 1-1 last weekend, picking up a 3-1 win over Eastern Kentucky before dropping their match on Saturday 3-2 to Morehead State.
EIU is hitting .233 so far this season, averaging 13.03 kills per set while their opponents have recorded a .215 attack percentage and are averaging 12.73 kills per set against the Panthers. Eastern Illinois has three players with over 200 kills on the season. Allie Hueston leads the Panthers with 266 kills on the year and a .358 attack percentage.
The Tigers will travel to Charleston, Ill. for their last regular-season match. Game time is set for Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
