Nashville, Tenn. –The Tennessee State volleyball team continues its homestretch this weekend with OVC matches against Eastern Kentucky on Friday and Morehead State on Saturday.The Tigers will be seeking revenge, having previously dropped matches to both teams earlier this year.
Last Time Out
The Tigers split their contests last weekend after falling to SEMO in five sets on Friday before picking up a win against UT Martin on Saturday.
Through both matches, the Tigers hit .210 and tallied a total of 147 kills.
Junior Chloe Watson led the Tigers offensively this past weekend, recording a team- high of 26 kills in the match against SEMO and 22 against UT Martin.
Defensively in the front, freshman Ayanna Chase led with seven blocks in the SEMO game and six against UT Martin. In the back, senior Madison Halterman led they way with 31 digs against SEMO and 30 against UT Martin.

The Tigers are currently 11-11 on the season with a 6-4 record in conference. TSU sits in a three-way tie for fourth in conference with Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State.
Tennessee State is ranked sixth in the OVC in attacking percentage (.193), third in blocks (85.5) and fourth in service aces. TSU’s offense has recorded 543 kills through the last ten conference matches.
Leading the offense for the Tigers is junior Chloe Watson. The outside hitter has recorded 326 kills this season and averages 3.84 kills per set. Through conference play, Watson ranks first in the OVC in kills (193) and kills per set (4.49).
Defensively at the net, freshman middle Ayanna Chase leads with 79 blocks followed closely by senior middle Haley Hampton with 58 and Watson with 49. In the back, senior libero Madison Halterman leads the defense and the OVC with 409 digs.
Sophomore setter Samantha Beltran has dished out 789 assists for an average of 9.28 assists per set, which ranks seventh in TSU history. Through conference play, Beltran ranks third in the OVC with 432 assists (10.05 a/s).
Eastern Kentucky is 7-19 on the season and 6-4 in conference play. The Colonels have won the last four conference matches, picking up wins against Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech last weekend.
EKU is hitting .141 on the season compared to opponents, who are hitting .225 against the Colonels.
Eastern Kentucky is led offensively by Celina Sanks, who has 250 kills on the season and averages 2.72 kills per set.
The match is set for Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Kean Hall.
Scouting Morehead State
The Eagles currently have a 9-15 record on the season and having won their last three conference matches, now hold a 6-4 record in conference play.
Morehead is hitting .196 as a team while having kept their opponents to a .188 attack percentage.
Merideth Jewell, who has recorded 388 kills this season and averages 4.17 kills per set, leads the Eagles.
TSU will face Morehead at noon on Saturday in Kean Hall.
