Nashville, Tenn.- The Tennessee State volleyball team (6-9, 1-2 OVC) continues conference play this weekend as they host SIU-Edwardsville (3-10, 1-2 OVC) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Kean Hall.
Tennessee State is ranked amongst the best in the conference in multiple categories. The team is ranked sixth in attacking percentage (.177), fourth in blocks (91) and second in service aces (92). TSU’s offense has recorded 633 kills through 57 sets of play.
The Tigers are led offensively by junior Chloe Watson who has recorded 200 kills on the season and averages 3.51 kills per set, which ranks fifth highest in the OVC. Watson also leads the team with 21 aces.
Defensively at the net, freshman middle Ayanna Chase leads with 44 blocks followed closely by senior Haley Hampton with 43 and Watson with 39. In the back, senior libero Madison Halterman leads the defense with 256 digs.
Sophomore Samantha Beltran has dished out a team-high of 489 assists for an average of 8.58 per set.
Last Time Out
The Tigers came out victorious in a five set match against Belmont on Tuesday, picking up their first conference win of the season.
TSU’s defense was solid on Tuesday, as they collected 84 digs and 24 block assists. The offense tallied a total of 51 kills throughout the match and recorded a .100 attacking percentage through the five sets.
The Cougars are 3-10 on the season with a 1-2 record in conference. Currently on a two-game losing streak, SIUE has dropped the last two conference matches to Tennessee Tech and Eastern Illinois.
SIUE are averaging 11.38 kills per set and have a .168 hitting percentage through 13 matches.
Senior Kristen Torre leads the Cougars with 163 kills and a .374 hitting percentage. The senior has tallied 45 blocks and has collected 10 service aces and 26 digs on the season.
SIU-Edwardsville has yet to pick up a road-game win this season and TSU currently holds a 4-2 all-time record against SIUE.
