Richmond, Ky.- A Tennessee State rally fell short as the Tigers dropped the OVC match to Eastern Kentucky 3-2 on Saturday.
The Tigers dropped the first two matches 25-23, 25-21 before making a comeback in the next two sets, winning 25-13, 25-22. With the match tied at two sets apiece, the Tigers were forced into a fifth set against the Colonels. TSU’s rally was cut short as EKU secured the win with a 15-8 score in the fifth.
TSU posted a .203 hitting percentage through five sets with 55 kills while EKU hit slightly better, hitting .218 as a team and recorded 58 kills.
Junior Chloe Watson notched her sixth double-double of the year with 25 kills and 14 digs. Watson hit .290 through five sets and collected 26.5 total points.
Sophomore Samantha Beltran led the Tigers with 45 assists while senior Madison Halterman led the team in digs with 20.
TSU is now 0-2 in conference and 5-9 overall. They take on a midweek conference game against Belmont on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in the Curb Event Center.
