Tigers Travel to Louisiana for Three-Game Excursion

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State volleyball team will head to Louisiana for a three-game road trip to play a single match against Southern University on Thursday in Baton Rouge before traveling to New Orleans for two games on Friday.

 

Last Time Out

The Tigers are coming off a 3-0 win against Alabama A&M and are currently 3-5 on the season with a .375 win percentage.

Statistically speaking, TSU is lead by junior Chloe Watson. The outside hitter has collected 89 kills through 29 sets and averages 3.07 kills per set.

Defensively, the Tigers are lead by senior Madison Halterman. The libero currently leads the team and the Ohio Valley Conference with 145 dig in 29 sets and averaging five digs per set.

The Tigers are hitting are hitting .174 as a team with 324 kills on the year and averages 11.2 kills per set.

 

Scouting Southern University

The Jaguars are currently 0-11 on the season after dropping their last three games in the Louisiana Tech Invitational to Lamar University, Louisiana Tech and University Louisiana-Monroe.

Chinasa Ekweariri who had recorded 67 kills through 35 sets, averaging 1.91 kills per set, leads Southern University. Diamond Williams leads the Jaguars defensively with 163 digs through just seven sets of play.

This will be the fourth time the two teams have met. The Tigers currently have a 1-2 record against the Jaguars.

 

The News on New Orleans

The Privateers are currently 6-5 on the season after dropping their last match 3-0 to Southern Miss.

New Orleans has lost two of its last three home games and had a 3-9 home record last season.

The team is led by Rondolyn Bryant, who has tallied 78 kills through 37 sets of play and a .242 hitting percentage.

Overall, the Privateers are hitting .179 as a team with 477 kills on the year.

The Tigers look to pick up their first program win against New Orleans, as the team has lost the last three times the teams have met.

 

The Lowdown on Grambling State

The Tigers are 2-7 on the year and are currently on a four-game losing streak and have not won a set since they swept SWAC rival, Mississippi Valley State.

Grambling State is hitting .060 as a team and is led by Maya Lucas, who has recorded a total of 44 kills through 28 sets and is hitting .215 on the year.

This will be the first time the Tiger teams have played each other.
