Volleyball Hosts Samford in 2015 Home Opener

Nashville, Tenn. – The Tennessee State volleyball team (0-3) will play their first home game of the season on Saturday against Samford University (1-2).

After dropping the first three matches of the season this past weekend in Oxford, Miss., the Tigers look to open up their first home game of the season with a win.

TSU will hope to receive more spirited play from junior Chloe Watson, who had a stellar opening weekend at Ole Miss. The junior notched her first double- double of the season against Ole Miss, recording 14 kills and 11 digs through four sets, which landed her a spot on the Magnolia Invitational All-Tournament team.

Another junior, Arijana Anderson will also be a key player for the Tigers this weekend. The outside hitter recorded a total of 30 kills in the last three games, averaging 2.36 kills per set.

Scouting Samford

- The Bulldogs are coming off a 1-2 weekend, where they swept reigning Southland Conference Champions, Stephen F. Austin

- Samford was picked to win the Southern Conference for the third straight season. In 2014, the Bulldogs finished 20-13 overall, 11-5 in the SoCon, won the SoCon Tournament title, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament, falling to Alabama in the first round.

-The Bulldogs return three starters and seven letterwinners from 2014. Junior outside hitter Erin Bognar leads the returners after posting 380 kills (3.11/set) last season. Junior setter Erika Pifer also returns after recording 1,286 assists (10.81/set) in 2014.

- Sophomore transfer Morgan St. Germain was picked as the SoCon's Defensive Player of the Week after a trio of solid outings at the War Eagle Invitational this past weekend in Auburn, Alabama. The sophomore recorded 52 digs in 11 sets for a league high 4.37 d/s in matches against a pair of reigning conference champions and a Southeastern Conference opponent.

Game time is at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday in Kean Hall and will be the first home game of the season. The game will play host to the “Freshman Social”. All freshmen are invited to come out, grab a free T-shirt, listen to music, and cheer on the Tiger volleyball team.
