NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University volleyball team fell to Tennessee Tech University in five sets on Friday night at Kean Hall.
The Tigers (9-19, 3-10 OVC) lost 2-3 to the Golden Eagles (12-17, 7-6 OVC). Both teams traded sets until the fifth when TTU opened up with six-straight points. The Tigers fought, but could not overcome the early deficit.
The Tigers received strong defense from four players who recorded double-digit digs headed up by senior Ileanushka Maldonado with 20. Sophomore Taylor Patterson turned in a stellar 13 dig performance while senior Naomi Wells and freshman Samantha Beltran had 11 apiece. Along with her total digs, Beltran added 37 assists for another double-double.
Sophomore Neisha Crockett led TSU on offense with 15 kills while junior Haley Hampton had 11 to make it a pair of Tigers with double-digit kills. TSU received a strong performance from freshman Carla Grayson who finished with six kills and five block assists.
Junior Madison Halterman was terrific serving the ball, racking up three aces on the night.
The Tigers conclude the two match home stand tomorrow afternoon with Jacksonville State. The match begins at 2:00 p.m. TSU has just three matches remaining for the regular season.
