COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University volleyball team went to Tennessee Tech University for an Ohio Valley Conference match on Saturday evening and came away with a loss.
The Tigers (8-13, 2-4 OVC) fell 1-3 to the Golden Eagles (8-14, 3-3 OVC) for their second-straight road conference loss. Junior Haley Hampton led all scorers with a career-high 19 kills. Senior Naomi Wells had another double-double as she tallied 12 digs and 10 kills.
Freshman Samantha Beltran recorded 29 assists and seven digs. The Mississauga, Ontario native added a pair of block assists and an ace to her match resume.
The Tigers were without the services of senior Taylor Swayzer who injured her ankle in pre-game warm-ups.
Senior Ileanushka Maldonado led the defense with 14 digs and junior Madison Halterman rounded out the three Tigers in double figure digs with 10 of her own. In her first match back from an injury, freshman Carla Grayson totaled three block assists, two kills, and a dig.
Tennessee State will be back in action next weekend as Austin Peay and Murray State come to Nashville. The match with the Governors is slated for Friday night at 7:00 p.m. while the Racers’ match is scheduled for Saturday at noon.
