MOREHEAD, Ky. – The Tennessee State University volleyball team fell to Morehead State on Saturday afternoon in four sets at Wetherby Gym.
The Tigers (9-18, 3-9 OVC) saw the Eagles (2-24, 2-10 OVC) rack up 14 blocks in route to a win. Both teams split the regular season series, each winning at their own gym.
A pair of Tigers had double-digit kills as junior Haley Hampton had 14 to lead the team while sophomore Arijana Anderson has 12. Efficiency-wise, sophomore Neisha Crockett led the team with a .412 attack percentage and had no errors on the match (seven kills).
TSU’s defense looked strong for the second night in a row as three Tigers had double-digit digs. Senior Ileanushka Maldonado led the team with 15 digs, while freshman Samantha Beltran had 14 digs to go along with 41 assists for a double-double. Senior Naomi Wells helped out on D with 11 digs.
The Tigers had eight team blocks with Crockett leading the way, having four block assists, while Wells had three. Senior Taylor Swayzer, Anderson, and Beltran had a pair of block assists. Just two block errors, total, for TSU.
The Tigers have four matches left and three of them are at home. Two are next weekend as Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State come to town. The Tech match is set for 7:00 p.m. Friday.
