NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference released its preseason awards and poll naming two Tennessee State University volleyball players, senior Naomi Wells and sophomore Arijana Anderson, to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
Wells makes her second straight appearance and Anderson is one of only two sophomores on the Preseason All-OVC team. Anderson was named OVC Newcomer of the year for 2013 after posting a 2.73 kills per set average. Wells led the conference in kills per set (3.57 average), points (395), and points per set (4.03 average) last season.
"Naomi Wells and Arijana Anderson have meant so much to this team," head coach Kathy Rulhac said. "They have really worked hard to get to where they are today and it's nice to see them get recognized for it."
The Tigers were picked eighth in the preseason poll. They come in 55 points behind Southeast Missouri for seventh and four points ahead of ninth place Murray State. TSU returns seven players from last year’s team that finished with a 10-18 record.
"We are the hunters this season. We have a good group of girls that are going to surprise people."
The season begins for the Tigers on Aug. 29th at Arkansas with their first conference game coming at home on Sep. 26th against defending OVC Champion Morehead State.
