Tigers Fall in Straight Sets at Belmont

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University volleyball team took a trip across the city to play Belmont University in an Ohio Valley Conference matchup Tuesday at the Curb Event Center.

The Tigers (9-21, 3-12 OVC) fell in straight sets to the Bruins (16-13, 12-3 OVC) for their sixth straight defeat. Belmont sweeps the season series with the Tigers for the first time since joining the OVC. TSU is now 7-20 all-time against their crosstown rivals.

Senior Naomi Wells led the way offensively with nine kills followed by junior Haley Hampton with eight. Hampton was efficient with her attempts hitting to a .500 clip for the evening.

Freshman Samantha Beltran led the defense with 10 digs. Including her 28 assists, Beltran notched another double-double for the year. Senior Ileanushka Maldonado finished the match with nine digs followed by Wells and senior Jaime Cooper with eight.

The Tigers will end the season on Saturday with a home contest against Eastern Illinois. Match-time is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Kean Hall. That match, we will also honor the seniors from this year’s squad.
