NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State University volleyball team traveled to Eastern Kentucky University on Friday night and dropped the match at McBrayer Arena 1-3.
The Tigers (9-17, 3-8 OVC) played strong defense against the Colonels (18-11, 8-3 OVC) but EKU was able to pull of the regular season sweep. Senior Ileanushka Maldonado led all defenders with 27 digs as TSU dug up 78 attacks for the evening. Junior Madison Halterman had 14 digs while senior Naomi Wells added 12 to give the Tigers three players in double-figure digs.
The Blue and White was also strong on the block, getting 10 as a team. Junior Haley Hampton led with 8 block assists while Wells added five and sophomore Neisha Crockett, senior Taylor Swayzer, and freshman Samantha Beltran all had a pair.
Wells also had 10 kills on the night to finish with a double-double. With a kill early in the first set, she became the leader in career kills at TSU after tying Kelly Davis last Friday. Wells’ career total is 1,247.
Hampton also had a dime’s worth of kills while sophomore Arijana Anderson led the team with 14 put downs. The Tigers hit .107 as a team.
TSU will next travel to Morehead State on Saturday. The Tigers and the Eagles square off at 1:00 p.m. The match will be broadcast on the OVC Digital Network.
