Volleyball Closes Spring Season in Murfreesboro
Murfreesboro, Tenn. – The Tennessee State volleyball team ended its spring season by splitting a pair of matches at Middle Tennessee State over the weekend.
“I didn’t know what to expect coming into the weekend,” head coach Kathy Rouhlac said. “We came out with a win, but more importantly, I saw our players compete at a high level against two of the nation’s top teams.”
In the first match, TSU defeated the host school, 23-25, 25-10. Although each team won a set apiece, the Tigers won the match by virtue of score differential.
Against MTSU, the Tigers got big production from Sherryce Butler, even though she was battling through an injury.
“Sherryce pulled it together and was able to do her job,” Roulhac said. “I was really pleased with her progress, especially with her mental toughness.”
Tennessee State dropped the second match of the day to Georgia Tech, ending an impressive spring season in which the Tigers posted a 7-2 record.
“These spring games were big for us because winning gives our girls confidence and it becomes contagious. It was also good to give some reps to the girls who were freshmen last year to see what they can do,” Roulhac said.
TSU will now turn its focus to its first match of the fall season on Aug. 30 at the University of South Alabama’s tournament.
