Nashville --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team will return to action this weekend with contests against Southeast Missouri on Friday and Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
The Tigers are coming off a 1-1 road split this weekend, in which they defeated UT Martin on Friday before falling to Murray State on Saturday. The Tigers tallied 76 kills and recorded a .186 attack percentage over both matches. TSU is currently in eighth place in the OVC standings and will look to make a push down the stretch.
Overall, the Tigers are led offensively by sophomore Shaquita Williams (2.28 kps), junior Vicmari Prospero (2.18 kps) and sophomore Terakka Walker (2.08 kps). Walker also leads TSU in digs with 3.06 per contest.
Southeast Missouri has a 4-6 OVC record and is tied for sixth place in the league race. The Redhawks are led offensively by Karleigh DeLong (3.41 kps) and Emily Hughes (3.20 kps). Molly Davis leads the Redhawks with 5.69 digs a set.
Tennessee State will look to even the season series after dropping the first meeting, 2-3, to Southeast Missouri at Houck Fieldhouse. Friday will mark the 39th meeting with the Redhawks holding a 35-3 lead.
Eastern Illinois fell to Southeast Missouri, 3-0, before snapping a nine-match losing streak with a non-conference win over SIU Edwardsville last week. Eastern Illinois (1-10 OVC) is currently in tenth place in the league standings. Alex Zwettler leads the Panthers in kills with 3.32 a set. Brittany Wallace turns in a team-best 4.28 digs per contest.
TSU picked up its first OVC win of the season in the earlier meeting at Eastern Illinois. The Tigers defeated the Panthers, 3-1, at Lantz Arena. Saturday will mark the 26th meeting between the two teams with EIU leading 22-3.
Tennessee State vs. Southeast Missouri is slated for Friday at 7 p.m. in Kean Hall while Saturday's contest against Eastern Illinois is scheduled for 2 p.m.
