Bowling Green, Ky. --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team was swept by Northern Illinois on Saturday in the final match of the Western Kentucky Tournament.
The set scores were 25-27, 20-25 and 20-25. With the loss, Tennessee State drops its eighth straight and falls to 1-9 on the season. Northern Illinois moves to 5-6 overall.
Terakka Walker led TSU with nine kills while Vicmari Prospero added eight kills and three service aces. Calasia Williams led the Tigers with 16 digs. Yamari Padilla-Collazo tallied 20 set assists and two service aces.
Tennessee State hit .071 in the contest and tallied 35 kills. The Tigers posted 39 digs and two team blocks for the match.
The first set went down to the wire and eventually went into extra points. A kill from Vicmari Prospero tied the contest at 24-24 before another Prospero put away knotted the score 25-25. Back-to-back kills from Northern Illinois, however, led to the Huskies escaping with the 27-25 win.
In set two, TSU trailed 20-19 when NIU scored five out of the next six points to secure the win. Similar to the second set, the Tigers saw the Huskies use a run down the stretch to pull away with the win. With the score tied 18-18, NIU went on a 7-2 run to close out the contest and claim the win.
Junior Vicmari Prospero was named to the WKU All-Tournament team for the tournament.
Next the Tigers will prepare for conference action against Austin Peay on Friday, Sept. 18. The match is slated for 7 p.m. in Clarksville, Tenn.
