Tigers Fall Short Against Gamecocks

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Jacksonville State Friday night in Kean Hall.

The Tigers (2-13, 1-3 OVC) dropped their third straight while the Gamecocks (13-5, 6-0 OVC) remained undefeated in league play.

The set scores were 25-22, 25-22 and 26-24.

The Tigers battled all night but couldn't close down the stretch. The sets were played extremely tight as neither team was able to build a huge lead throughout the frames. All three contests were decided by four points or less.

Tennessee State tallied 41 kills in the contest and recorded a .189 attack percentage while Jacksonville State notched 43 kills and hit .248.

Shaquita Williams led the Tigers with 13 kills while Terakka Walker had a team best 15 digs. Calasia Williams turned in 12 digs and Vicmari Prospero registered three service aces on the night. Yamari Padilla-Collazo tallied 34 set assists.

Brittney Whitten led the Gamecocks with 15 kills while Caitlin Vorbeck added 13. Whitten also led JSU with 19 digs. Lauren Harkins (13) and Brooke Schumacher (10) also posted double-digit digs for the Gamecocks.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow when they face the Golden Eagles of Tennessee Tech at home. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. in Kean Hall.
