Nashville --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday for non-conference play with cross town opponent Belmont in the Curb Event Center.
The Tigers (2-11, 1-2 OVC) are coming off of a 1-1 road split this past weekend. TSU snapped a nine-match losing skid with a victory over Eastern Illinois on Friday before falling to Southeast Missouri in five on Saturday.
The Tigers got a strong offensive showing from Shaquita Williams as she posted double-digit kills in both contests. Williams notched 11 kills against EIU and tied a career-best 14 kills to go along with seven digs and eight block assists versus SEMO.
Overall the Tigers are led by Terakka Walker (2.34 kps) and Vicmari Prospero (2.34 kps) in kills while Calasia Williams registers a team best 3.19 digs per set. Tennessee State is averaging 11.21 kills per set with a .123 attack percentage.
After beginning the season 2-7, Belmont improved to 8-8 following a 3-1 victory over Mercer last Saturday. The Bruins average 21.1 kills per set with a .201 attack percentage. Maggie Johnson leads BU in kills with 3.40 per set. Carly Frazier turns in 2.51 kills per contest for the Bruins.
This will be the 21st meeting between the two teams as Belmont holds a commanding 15-5 advantage over Tennessee State. Last season, TSU dropped a hard-fought battle, 3-2, in Kean Hall to BU.
Match time is slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Curb Event Center.
