Tigers Fall to Racers

Murray, Ky. --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (26-28, 18-25, 23-25) road loss to Murray State Friday night.

 

Tennessee State (7-15, 5-9 OVC) recorded 43 kills and 64 digs in the match while Murray State (11-12, 8-5 OVC) tallied 46 kills and 62 digs.

 

A kill from Candace Saleaumua started what would be a closely played first set. The score remained close as neither team was able to build a substantial lead. With the score tied 26-26, two costly TSU errors gave Murray State the 28-26 win.

 

The second set saw Murray State capture an 18-7 lead behind a 7-0 run. A kill from Ashley Nenninger stretched the Racer advantage to 22-11 before Murray State won the set 25-18.

 

The Tigers fell behind 3-0 early in the third set but battled back to tie the score 4-4 following a Racer attack error. Both teams traded the lead over the next several points. With the score knotted 23-23, a Racer kill coupled with a Tiger attack error pushed MSU to the slight 25-23 set three win.  

 

Freshman Terakka Walker led the Tigers with 12 kills in addition to 13 digs for a double-double. Yamari Padilla-Collazo and Candace Saleaumua also registered 13 digs while Heather Sanders posted 10.

 

The Tigers return to action on Friday, Nov. 7 when they host Austin Peay. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. in Kean Hall.
