Cookeville, Tenn.--- The TSU volleyball team fell to Tennessee Tech 1-3 (22-25, 19-25, 25-23, 17-25) Saturday afternoon at the Eblen Center.

Tennessee State falls to 1-6 (0-2 OVC) while Tech moves to 4-8 (1-1 OVC).

The first set featured three different lead changes with neither team holding more than a three point lead. With TSU trailing 22-23, a TSU service error and a Tech kill gave the Golden Eagles the first set 25-22.

TSU captured a 9-6 lead in the second set on a service ace by Candace Saleaumua before four Tiger errors led to Tech knotting the set at 10-10.  With the set tied at 16-16, Tech posted three straight points to pull ahead 19-16. The Tigers cut the deficit down to two (19-17) on a Golden Eagle attack error but that would be as close as they would get as Tech went on to claim the second set 25-19.

Trailing the match 0-2, Tennessee State wouldn’t go quietly in the third set. The Tigers turned in 13 kills holding the Golden Eagles to a .105 hitting percentage in the set. With a slight 24-23 lead, down the stretch a kill by Christian Lowe gave TSU the 25-23 set three win, extending the match to a fourth set.

Tech jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the third set and lead by as many as nine at (23-14) one point. The Golden Eagles held on to the lead for the rest of the game.

Christian Lowe turned in 11 kills to lead TSU while Candace Saleaumua collected 18 digs for the Tigers.

The Tigers continue their four game road swing on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Eastern Kentucky. Match time is schedule for 6 p.m.
