Nashville --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team will face a challenging schedule in the upcoming fall season, as the 2009 slate has been released.

The Tigers will play a total of 30 regular-season matches, including 10 at home at Kean Hall.

The Big Blue will kick-off the season by participating in the Samford University tournament August 28-29. The two-day event will also feature Southern Mississippi, University of Louisiana-Monroe and host Samford.

TSU will then hit the road for the second consecutive week when they face South Alabama in the Georgia Dawgs Invitational, Sept. 4-5. TSU will also match-up with Duke and host Georgia in the tournament.

Tennessee State will take a brief break from the tournaments and return to Kean Hall to host UT Chattanooga in the home opener on Tuesday, Sept.8.

TSU will then return to the road for the rest of the month of September. The Tigers will play their final tournament of the season at the University of Western Kentucky, Sept.11-12, where they will meet up with Northern Illinois, Memphis along with the Lady Toppers.

Following the WKU tourney, the Tigers will have five straight road matches including non-conference and intra-city rivals Lipscomb (Sept.15) and Belmont (Sept. 29). TSU will also see its first OVC action of the season with contests at Austin Peay (Sept.18), Eastern Illinois (Sept.25), and Southeast Missouri (Sept 26).

Next, the Tigers return to Kean Hall for a four-game home stand with opponents Jacksonville State (Oct.2), Tennessee Tech (Oct.3), Morehead (Oct.6), and Austin Peay (Oct.9) before hitting the road for two contests at UT-Martin and Murray State, Oct.16-17.

TSU will face Southeast Missouri and Eastern Illinois at home on Oct.23 and Oct.24 before embarking on a four-game road swing that will begin with Eastern Kentucky and Morehead State on Oct. 30-31 and conclude with Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State on Nov. 6-7.

The Tigers face Eastern Kentucky at home on Nov.10 and will celebrate their seniors, Nov. 13-14, when they host their final home weekend with conference foes Murray State and UT Martin.

The Ohio Valley Conference Tournament will begin play on Nov.19 and will conclude on Nov.23 at the campus of the regular-season champion.

The Tigers return six players from last season and will add seven newcomers to the squad.
